Attractions and Activities in Costa Maya
Many cruise ships stopover Costa Maya during their cruise. Here passengers can experience the stunning beaches. If you reach Costa Maya in the western Caribbean, you will notice the diversity in this port. While the place is full of things that remind you of the history of the place, you can also experience a great time under the sun and enjoy the sand, the sea, and your sip. If you reach this cruise destination, here are some things you can do.
You can simply relax at the Costa Maya Port. Here at the port, you can swim in salt water pools with swim-up bars, go to restaurants, go shopping at their shopping plaza and artisan markets. There are many places to go to at the port itself if you don’t want to go too far from your cruise ship. At the port you can hear the drum beat music from some restaurants where you can relax at the saltwater pools or have a Mexican meal from their restaurants. Near the pier is a secluded dolphin excursion area where you can go swimming with dolphins of snorkel to explore marine life. You can explore the port and surrounding areas riding in bicycles or golf carts which you can rent.
From the cruise port, you travel 30 minutes to reach the Mahahual Fishing Village. This is a beautiful quaint fishing village with beautiful beaches and restaurants to eat at. Here you don’t pay to use the beach. Their beaches are of white sand and the water is shallow, warm and clear. What keeps the water relatively calm and safe to splash around even for kids is the reef systems that is out in the water. Here you can enjoy beach games like volleyball, light snorkeling or simply splash around the ocean.
If you love historical adventures, then you should visit the Mayan Ruins in Chacchoben. Here you can explore three sites including Chacchoben, Kohunlich, and Dzibanche. Large pyramid structures are found here and one thing you can do is to climb the ruins and enjoy the general beauty of the region from up there.
If you love visiting historical sights, then you should go visit the Spanish Fortress at Bacalar. From the port, you travel an hour and a half to reach the fortress which is one of the historical sights in the place. This is a Spanish fortress which they used to fight off attacks from pirates and the locals. Make sure to go to the rooftop of the fort to have a beautiful view of the Bacalara lagoon.
Costa Maya is a place where you can visit many sighs and do many activities. The Meso-American reef system is the 2nd largest reef system in the world and it is here where the cruise port of Costa Maya is located.
